Ed Helms was born on 24 January 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He grew up in Brookwood Hills, Midtown. He was diagnosed to suffer from heart murmur and was advised for open-heart surgery when he was just 14 years old. He studied at Westminster High School, Atlanta. Another actor -Brain Baumgartner had also studied from the same school and they have acted together in a TV series named ‘The Office’. Both of them were invited and honored by the school in 2007, for their success in Hollywood. Ed graduated from Oberlin College, Ohio in 1996. He is an expert at playing banjo.
He has acted in numerous TV shows and films. He has worked in movies like ‘Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story’, ‘Evan Almighty’, ‘Walk Hard’, ‘Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay’, ‘I’ll Believe You’ and ‘Meet Dave‘. He appeared in a guest role in TV shows like ‘Monk’, ‘Arrested Development‘ and ‘Cheap Seats’. He gave his voice for “Mr. Buckley” in ‘American Dad’ and for “Angel” in ‘Weighty Decisions‘. He has done commercial voiceover in campaigns for Burger King, Doritos, Sharp Aquos, and Advair asthma medication. He hosted many segments of ‘The Daily Show’ (2002-2006). He was a regular correspondent on the show. Afterwards, he was seen on this show in a segment ‘Obama Quest’ (21 July 2008), which covered the then Senator Barrack Obama’s trip to Iraq. He was a guest of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and attended the Washington Correspondents Dinner on 29 April 2006.
He joined the TV show ‘The Office’ for the recurring role of “Andy Bernard” but the role was made regular afterwards. He won the Screen Actors Guild Awards- 2008, in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for ‘The Office’. He was again nominated for the same award under the same category for ‘The Office’, in 2009. He also won the Future Classic Award in TV Land Awards, 2008 for ‘The Office’.
