Mindy Kaling was born on 24 June 1979 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. She is of Indian descent. She studied at Buckingham Browne and Nichols, Cambridge. After this, she went to Dartmouth College and completed her graduation in 2001.
At college, she became a member of ‘The Dog Day Players’, an improvisational troupe and ‘The Rockapellas’, a cappella group. She also created the comic strip ‘Badly Brawn Girl’ in “The Dartmouth” (college newspaper of the Dartmouth College). She co-wrote and starred in the play ‘Matt and Ben’. Time magazine named this play as one of the ‘Top Ten Theatrical Events of the Year‘ in 2003.
She got the job of writing and performing for the TV series ‘The Office’ in 2004. She has written several episodes, and has acted as “Kelly Kapoor” in the series. She won Image Award in 2008 for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for ‘The Office’. She also won the WGA Award in 2007 for Comedy Series for ‘The Office’. She earned nomination for the same in 2006, 2008 and also in 2009.
